Dr. Loller's office was the first dental office in Santa Clara County to be certified as a Green Business. In addition to reducing waste and recycling, we instituted several other steps in our office to minimize our impact on the planet.
Our installation of device called an amalgam separator eliminates over 99% of the toxic mercury amalgam particles from our waste water. This is not required by our county, but we felt it was something we should do. We also, by the way, do not place amalgam fillings in our patients mouths.
By using digital x-rays, we do not have to purchase, store or dispose of the hazardous chemicals needed for traditional x-ray film processing. Spent fixer and developer need to be hauled away by hazardous waste contractors and are tracked by the EPA as Hazardous Waste.
Our charts are digital as well. We keep an electronic record instead of a paper chart, dramatically reducing our use of paper. Electronic charts are securely backed up offsite, so that the information can be restored in case of fire or emergency.
